  • The population of the EU27 has grown to 448 million by the beginning of 2020
  • In 2019, migration growth, as in 2015 and 2017-2018, became the only factor in the growth of the EU28 population against the backdrop of increasing natural decline

  • EU28 births continued to decline in 2019, dropping to 9.5 per 1,000 inhabitants

  • In 2017-2019, the EU28 death toll remained relatively stable at around 5.3 million
