  • Marriage Patterns in the EU-27, 2024
    • The crude marriage rate in the EU-27 continues to decline, falling to 3.9‰ in 2024; the crude divorce rate decreased slightly, stabilizing at 1.6‰
    • The share entering a first marriage ranges from 67% in Latvia to 90% in Ireland among grooms, and from 66% to 92% in the same countries among brides
    • The mean age at first marriage continues to increase; in Spain and Sweden it exceeds 37 years for men and 35 years for women
    • The total first marriage rate for men is below 0.5 in 13 EU-27 countries, and for women in 9 EU-27 countries
    • Marriage rates for both men and women continue to decline and shift toward older ages
    • The majority of the population still marries, but the proportion married among the middle-aged population is lower than among their parents' generations
