Гранты Международного союза по изучению народонаселения на поезку и участие в семинарах
для начинающих демографов

Международный союз по изучению народонаселения (IUSSP) предоставляет гранты молодым демографам для участия в семинарах, проводящихся в Мехико 21-22 ноября 2003 года (по демографическим проблемам, связанным с бедностью) и Буркина-Фасо 12-14 февраля 2004 года (по демографическим проблемам Африки, связанным с ВИЧ и распространением инфекций). Грант покрывает транспортные расходы до места семинара и проживание во время его проведения. Кандидаты должны заручиться поддержкой двух членов IUSSP.


Call for Junior Demographer - Junior Demographer Travel Grant

The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Population and Poverty and the IUSSP Scientific Committee on Emerging Health Threats invite applications from junior demographers to attend one of the following seminars: "Poverty, Programs and Demographic Outcomes" organized by the Scientific Panel on Population and Poverty to be held in Mexico City on 21-22 November 2003 (further details available at: http://www.iussp.org/Activities/scc-pov/pov-call03.php) and "HIV, Resurgent Infections and Population Change in Africa,"organized by the Scientific Committee on Emerging Health Threats in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso 12-14 February 2004 (further details available at: http://www.iussp.org/Activities/scc-thr/thr-call04.php).

The Junior Demographer Travel Grant provides an opportunity for a young demographer to meet world renowned specialists in the field. The grant covers roundtrip transport to the meeting as well as accommodation during the meeting. In return the junior demographer may be asked by the seminar organizers to write up a summary of the meeting or help with other organizational tasks during the meeting.

Conditions of eligibility
* Candidates are expected to be holders of an advanced degree in a discipline related to population and junior in the profession.
* All applicants for the junior demographer award should be IUSSP members (nonmembers wishing to apply can obtain a membership application form from the IUSSP website: http://www.iussp.org/Membership/4application.php).
* Each candidate must be sponsored by two IUSSP members.
* In the case of equal qualifications, preference will normally be given to a candidate from a developing country.

Application procedure

Candidates should submit a letter explaining why they are interested in attending the Seminar, what they expect to gain from it, and how they could contribute to it. The candidates letter, curriculum vitae, and letters of recommendation from two sponsors should be sent to the seminar organizers listed below.

Candidates interested in attending the seminar on "Poverty, Programs and Demographic Outcomes" to be held in Mexico City on 21-22 November 2003 should address their questions and send application material to John Strauss (jstrauss@msu.edu) or by fax (1) 517 432 1068. The application deadline for this seminar is September 15, 2003.

Candidates interested in attending the seminar on "HIV, Resurgent Infections and Population Change in Africa,"in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 12-14 February 2004 should address their questions and send application materials to Frances Mesle (mesle@ined.fr) or by fax (33) (0)1 56 06 21 94. The application deadline for this seminar is November 15, 2003.
